The Sanskrit Department at Government General Degree College, Salboni, has a straightforward aim to teach students about Sanskrit language, literature, and culture in a simple and accessible manner. We want students to learn Sanskrit well, so they can read and understand ancient texts easily. Our courses cover everything from basic language skills to understanding famous Sanskrit Mahakavyas, plays, stories and philosophical writings. Through our teachings, students not only gain knowledge about Sanskrit but also develop an appreciation for the rich cultural heritage it represents. We encourage students to explore Sanskrit beyond the classroom by participating in research projects, seminars, and workshops. These activities help students dive deeper into various aspects of Sanskrit studies, such as analyzing texts and understanding their historical and cultural contexts. By engaging in such activities, students develop critical thinking skills and become better equipped to understand and appreciate the significance of Sanskrit in today’s world. Beyond academic pursuits, the Sanskrit Department also aims to share the beauty and importance of Sanskrit with the wider community. We organize cultural events and collaborate with local organizations to raise awareness about Sanskrit culture and its relevance in contemporary society. By doing so, we hope to inspire others to take an interest in Sanskrit and its contributions to Indian heritage. In summary, the Sanskrit Department’s aim is simple: to make Sanskrit language, literature, and culture accessible and enjoyable for students. Through our efforts, we aim to empower students with knowledge, foster critical thinking skills, and promote awareness and appreciation of Sanskrit within our college community and beyond.
